The circus is gone

Alas, today, the lot has emptied
Furiously, the circus came
Just as fast, it’s disappeared
Empty lots of concrete
No traces of tight rope walking
or swallowing of swords
or lions through flames
or bears on bikes
The stale smell and creepy crunch of popcorn under foot
Elephants, monkeys and bearded women, vanished
Box carts full speed out-of-town
Until next year, the circus is gone
